WWII Australian Corporal "Paddy Ryan".In February of 1943 the Australian Imperial Force Troops left the Suez to return and defend their homeland and neighbouring regions against the Japanese Forces.The "Diggers" were involved in grim struggles against overwhelming forces in New Britian, Borneo, The Solomons, and New Guinea. One of the most famous campaigns was the battle for the Kokoda Trail in the Owen Stanley Mountains. During these campaigns the Australians became effective jungle fighters and halted the Japanese advance.
