- Q1: What type of batteries can the BatterySAVER POWERPAK recharge? The BatterySAVER POWERPAK has been designed to charge AA rechargeable batteries including; Nickel Cadmium, Nickel Metal Hydride, and the new "Rechargeable Alkaline" (except Rayovac Rechargeable Alkaline Batteries). Do not attempt to recharge regular alkaline or zinc carbon batteries with the BatterySAVER POWERPAK. Using the POWERPAK as a trickle charger for 6 or 12 Volt batteries: Using the alligator clamps (included with your POWERPAK), you can trickle charge all types of 6 or 12 Volt batteries including; lead-acid automotive batteries, deep cycle (traction type) batteries, gel-cell batteries, and heavy-duty (stationary type) batteries.
- Q2: How long does it take to charge AA batteries with the BatterySAVER POWERPAK? Average charge time is approx. 4 hrs per AA battery in sunny conditions. This is based on a battery capacity of 0.5 Ah, your charging time may differ according to the capacity of your battery (verify with manufacturer). Charge times will also vary depending upon the strength of sunlight and the depth of discharge of the batteries. Please note: -NiCad batteries (because of the "memory" effect) should be completely drained before recharging, as you can limit their capacity by prematurely recharging them. -NiMH batteries are not subject to such limitations, as they have no "memory problems". Also, keep in mind some of the high-performance NiMH can now store 3 times more energy than standard rechargeable batteries. This means they will take 3 times longer to charge. Caution: Do not confuse the Standard Alkaline batteries with the newly available "rechargeable" Alkaline batteries. It is dangerous to attempt to recharge regular non-rechargeable batteries.
- Q3: Can the BatterySAVER POWERPAK overcharge my batteries? Although the BatterySAVER POWERPAK is not likely to overcharge your rechargeable batteries, we recommend that you periodically remove and discharge any batteries that have been charging in the sun for more than 3 months.
- Q4: Can the BatterySAVER POWERPAK drain my batteries at night? No. The BatterySAVER POWERPAK has a built-in diode which protects against reverse current.
- Q5: Can the BatterySAVER POWERPAK remain connected to my cigarette lighter or power socket while starting my vehicle? Yes. The BatterySAVER POWERPAK can remain installed while the vehicle is starting. However, as a safety precaution while driving, safely store the POWERPAK so that it will not move around and cause injury while driving.
- Q6: Can I run a small appliance while charging the batteries? Yes. However, for maximum power output, it is recommended to use only one of the unit's functions at a time, since power would be split among each function being used. NOTE: Today's small, energy efficient electronic appliances will work directly off the solar panel leads if they operate within the voltage and amperage ranges of the BatterySAVER POWERPAK. The unit's maximum output under sunny conditions is 140mAmps at 6V or 70mAmps at 12V. Therefore, if your appliance requires more amperage than can be provided by the POWERPAK, then your appliance cannot be operated by this solar panel alone.
- Q7: Why does the indication diod on the Batterysaver PowerPak turn off when I insert batteries in the charger or starting to charge an external battery? The diode is an indication of that the solar panel works and can charge batteries. When a battery is inserted the resistance in the circuit increases and the diode turns off. This is normal and does not mean that the charger does not work.nics like small portable radios.
