The SECOND ARROW is a compact 2-person, double-skinned, expedition tent for ultra-lightweight travel in snow, across exposed countrv and in severe weather. Good ventilation also makes this tent suitable for use in warm weather conditions.
The SECOND ARROW design derives from that of the First Arrow model with its classic tapered tunnel architecture. None of the functional advantages or attention to detail of the First Arrow have been lost on the SECOND ARROW. Our design objective was to absolutely minimise weight without compromising the tent's 2-person status. Rather than repeating all of the information common to both tents we refer you back to the First Arrow if you need to catch up.
In scaling the tapered tunnel shape to the compact two arch Second Arrow design careful attention has been paid to equalising skin stress over the outer tent surface and to avoiding unnecessarily large areas of unsupported fabric. This has involved slight changes to the cant of the two arches. The access each side of the main arch into the vestibule and inner tent remains unchanged. Gear stowed under the vestibule does not hinder movement in and out of the tent.
The SECOND ARROW inner tent has good shoulder width for two people and just sufficient length for one occupant up to 190cm tall if the other is no taller than 175cm. (It's a matter of room at the foot). The drawings show the main dimensions of the tent, including vestibule space. To make full use of the compact inner tent space it is important to tension it out well on the adjustable touch tape suspension points. We have been asked to increase the length of this tent. The reason we don't is that the spacing (combined with the necessary tilt) of the two arches is the maximum we are prepared to set against extreme conditions. Remember, when you lie in the inner to test its length you never sleep stiff as a board. In fact, to be comfortable 200mm less than your height is generally sufficient.
While access into the tent is provided at each side of the main arch it is impractical to provide more than a full-width slit opening at the small end. It is possible to crawl out through this. Both ends of the outer and inner can still be fully unzipped for ventilation and 'views', from within the inner tent. Both arches are guyed. All the other features of the Second Arrow are identical to those of the First Arrow, except the peg number is seven.
